Schuylkill County man allegedly assaults woman for supporting Obama
A Saint Clair man was jailed early Saturday charged with assaulting a woman over her political views concerning President Barack Obama.
George J. Prutzman, 52, of 305 S. Second St., was charged with aggravated assault-bodily injury and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, both felony offenses, as well as misdemeanor charges of unlawful restraint, simple assault, terroristic threats and recklessly endangering another person.
A warrant was obtained for the Prutzman‘s arrest and he was taken into custody hours after the assault, arraigned by Magisterial District Judge James K. Reiley, Pottsville, and committed to Schuylkill County Prison unable to post $50,000 straight cash bail.
Saint Clair police Patrolman Frank DiMarco said, Prutzman, owner of The Trading Post Pawn Shop on South Second Street, assaulted the woman at the business after becoming enraged at her for supporting and voting for Obama.
The woman, who was not identified, suffered a severe laceration to the right side of her forehead, cuts and scrapes on her head, neck and ear and appeared to have dirt on her coat and scuffs on her knees and clothing, DiMarco said.
DiMarco said the argument began about 9:30 p.m. Friday over the woman’s political views at which time Prutzman threw her against walls.
The woman said she tried to get away and go to the bathroom but he grabbed her by the neck, banged her head against the wall and threw her to the ground again, DiMarco said.
When the woman got up, DiMarco said Prutzman threw her into a toilet and grabbed a long gun out of a case and threatened to kill her.
Prutzman placed the muzzle end of the firearm against the woman’s body, then threw her into a display case causing her to bleed and feel severe pain in her head and chest, DiMarco said.
When the woman tried to leave, DiMarco said Prutzman blocked the door and shoved her back saying he did not want her to call the police.
DiMarco said the woman calmed Prutzman down by saying she would not call the police and he cleaned the blood off her face and allowed her to leave.
The woman was taken to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street where it was determined she suffered a fractured rib and required stitches for the laceration on her head as well as treatment for multiple bruises and cuts on her head and face.
Prutzman will now have to answer to the charges before Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko, Port Carbon.
