4 charged in Charlotte, Matthews robberies

Police made four arrests Tuesday night in connection with robberies in Charlotte and Matthews that detectives say were conducted by a well-organized ring.

The arrests, say detectives, solve robberies at two Kangaroo Express convenience stores in Charlotte and a CVS pharmacy in Matthews.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police identify those arrested as:

– Zachary Nathaniel Graves, 23, charged with three counts each of robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.

– Omar Markabi, 17, charged with two counts each of robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.

– Walter Pries, 21, charged with one count each of robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.

– Richard Fiske, 21, charged with one count each of robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Police allege all four were involved in the robbery of the CVS in Matthews early last Friday. Graves and Markabi also are charged with a March 23 robbery of a Kangaroo Express on Charlottetowne Avenue near Charlotte’s uptown. And Graves faces charges in connection with a March 26 robbery of a Kangaroo Express on Harris Station in University City.

In each case, police say, the bandits were armed and wearing masks. No injuries were reported in the robberies.

Several units of CMPD worked jointly to make the arrests, with the help of Matthews police in the case of the CVS robbery there.
